Thomas VanZant
Thomas is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Houston Christian University, where he earned a BA in Political Science. He was honored as an outstanding student and leader at graduation by receiving the President’s Award. His primary service on campus was serving as the Student Body President during his junior year. He used that position to enact changes across campus and create a vibrant social life after COVID.
Thomas was on the Dean’s List every year, graduated from the Honors College, and was a member of the Student Foundation and many other campus organizations. As a senior, Thomas was inducted into the Alpha Chi Honors Society and was named an “All-National Attorney” by the American Mock Trial Association.
During his college years, Thomas concentrated on politics. He has served three current members of Congress in both the House and Senate. While he has a deep love for politics, he discovered a genuine passion for the law during his college years and chose to earn a law degree before diving back into the political arena. He aspires to use his law degree to help create bipartisan legislation in the future.
Thomas got married during his first year of law school to his beautiful wife, Idalia! They live in North OKC, and she teaches third grade at an elementary school in Edmond. Together, they go to Faith Church, play tennis, and enjoy picnics at Scissortail Park.
This past summer, Thomas worked for the Oklahoma Attorney General in the Solicitor General’s Unit. Because the SGU works solely on appellate issues and questions of law, Thomas spent most of his summer researching significant state issues. He drafted memos and motions covering important topics such as immigration, insurance, Title IX, Title X, pharmaceutical companies, and mineral rights on indigenous lands. Some of Thomas’s work ended up before federal courts nationwide, the Tenth Circuit, and the Oklahoma Supreme Court.
