Pro Bono & Public Interest Law

A component of the law school’s mission is service to the legal community. There are many ways for law students to engage in public service work at the local, state, national and international levels. Students and graduates have the opportunity to interact with organizations that provide an educational component regarding pro bono and public interest issues. Students may locate public interest employers and opportunities in Symplicity.

ABA Model Rule 6.1

Voluntary Pro Bono Publico Service

Annual Pro Bono Recognition Reception

Students are doing so many wonderful things and we want to hear about it! We also recognize outstanding service at our annual pro bono reception honoring volunteers, host organizations, and community partners. In order to participate, volunteer hours must be reported in Symplicity. The time frame for qualifying hours is June 1 through May 31 of the following year.

Summer Fellowships

Understanding that many students are not in a position to devote large amounts of time without any sort of financial assistance, the law school awards a limited number of stipends through the Dean’s Summer Pro Bono and Public Interest Law Fellowship Program.

Students who have questions about volunteer service with pro bono or public interest organizations are encouraged to contact Law Career Services at or 405.208.5332.
