Zach Schmit
Zach graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Oklahoma (OU) in May of 2024 with a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering. While at OU, Zach was also a prominent member of the OU football team for 5 seasons, starting in 2020 and finishing in the 2024 season. Zach was the starting kicker for the last three of those seasons and captained multiple games.
During his time on the football team, Zach was awarded All Big 12 Academic Rookie Team in 2020 and All Big 12 Academic First Team for the 2021, 2022, and 2023 seasons. During his final season in 2024, Zach was a William V. Campbel Trophy Semifinalist, which is an award given to the most outstanding student athlete in the country. Zach was also awarded the Derrick Shepard Most Inspirational Walk-On Award, which is given to a player who modeled the values of the team, while also not being on scholarship. Being a walk-on taught him to always put forth 110%, regardless of whether a positive outcome was apparent.
Football gave Zach the ability to connect, collaborate and lead people from all backgrounds. It also gave him a chance to contribute to the community through service projects, whether it was building bunk beds for foster homes or delivering meals to the elderly and disabled.
During an internship, Zach was capable of meshing both engineering and law through helping on patents specific to chemical engineering. He was able to incorporate the technical abilities required in engineering, with the methods of law. Zach hopes to continue using experiences like these as he furthers his profession.
