If you had told me years ago that I would be in law school preparing for a career in litigation, I am not sure I would have believed you. I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, graduated from the University of Oklahoma, and am proud to be a first-generation college graduate, the first in my family to attend law school, and of Hispanic heritage. My path was not traditional. I spent ten years in the medical field, including six years in medical sales, before deciding to pursue a career in law.

When I started OCU Law, a big difference for me was meeting another student who made me feel truly welcomed. That simple act of kindness reassured me I was exactly where I needed to be. That sense of connection has carried me through long nights of studying, challenging classes, and moments of doubt. Being a non-traditional student has given me real-world experience that makes many legal concepts more relatable and has helped me tackle the day-to-day grind of completing the countless tasks that come with law school. Law school is a marathon, not a sprint, and it takes grit to stay focused and keep moving forward.

Last summer, I worked at a medical defense firm and discovered my passion for litigation, which I plan to carry into my legal career after graduation. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, traveling to new places, and exploring local restaurants. I believe in celebrating small wins, staying grounded, and finding joy in the everyday moments. To anyone considering law school, my advice is this: believe in yourself and keep going, even when it is hard. The path may not be easy, but it is always worth it. And remember, it is never too late to go after what you want, no matter what stage of life you are in. I am living proof.
