Ebony James, 3L
My name is Ebony James, and I am a third-year law student at OCU from Greenville, North Carolina. I graduated from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, with a degree in International Political Economy.
At OCU, I serve as President of the Black Law Student Association for the 2025–26 academic year and as an Articles Editor on the Law Review Board of Editors. I have also served as an academic fellow for civil procedure and practice and as a peer mentor through the academic success program.
My legal experience includes work in civil litigation, the criminal reentry clinic, and an internship as a legal licensed intern with the Oklahoma County Public Defender’s Office. I also authored an upper-level writing paper on the impact of criminal costs and fees on indigent defendants. These experiences have fueled my passion for indigent defense, which I plan to pursue after graduation. Outside of law school, I enjoy reading, traveling, and watching TLC shows.
