Indian Child Welfare Appellate Clinic

The Indian Child Welfare Appellate Clinic provides law students with hands-on experience representing tribes, parents, or Indian custodians in appellate matters involving the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) and related state and federal child welfare laws. Students will work under faculty supervision on real or simulated appeals, drafting briefs, conducting legal research, developing oral arguments, and engaging with tribal legal principles and sovereignty issues. The clinic emphasizes culturally competent advocacy, ethical practice, and the intersection of federal, state, and tribal jurisdiction in child welfare proceedings.
