“A Night for the Innocent” with Betty Anne Waters

WELCOME TO LAW SCHOOL!

Now that you’ve been admitted, bookmark this page and check it regularly for information on events, registration, and tips on preparing for law school.

RESERVING YOUR SEAT

To reserve your seat as an incoming 1L, a seat deposit of $500 is due by the date listed on your acceptance letter.  This non-refundable deposit will be credited toward your first semester’s tuition.  Please submit a deposit form with your payment.  Contact the Admissions Office if you have questions concerning the deposit.

CANCELING OR DEFERRING YOUR SEAT

Because there are a limited number of seats for incoming law students, we ask that you submit a cancellation form immediately if you decide to enroll at another institution or request a deferral of your admission.  Requests to defer admission are reviewed by the Admissions Committee.  To petition for a deferral, please send a letter (acceptable via email) explaining your reasons for the request.

OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT REQUIREMENT

Although we received a copy of your transcript with your LSDAS report, you must also arrange to have your undergraduate registrar’s office send an official transcript that clearly shows the date you received your Bachelor’s degree.  The official transcript must be mailed to the law school at:  OCU LAW Admissions Office, PO Box 61310, Oklahoma City, OK  73146.

REGISTERING FOR CLASSES AND 1L ORIENTATION

Admitted students will receive registration information via email toward the end of June.  As soon as the registration requirements are met, the Law School Registrar will begin registering you for Fall classes.  After you are registered for classes, you will receive an email with information on how to access your individual schedule.  You will generally receive your schedule during the last two weeks in July.  Access to the schedule will also allow you to view syllabi and purchase the required textbooks.

INTERACTING WITH OTHER NEWLY ADMITTED AND CURRENT STUDENTS

Admitted students can connect with other newly admitted students and current law students by joining the “OCU LAW — Admitted Students Fall 2012″ group on Facebook.  You can also contact a Senior Ambassador to get honest, sincere advice about how to prepare for law school, living in Oklahoma City, and what to expect in law school.  Senior Ambassadors staff the Admissions Office and are available by phone or in person.

VISITING OCU LAW

We want you to make an informed decision about where to attend law school and the best way to do that is by spending some time at the law school getting to know our students, faculty, and community.  If you are traveling over 200 miles round trip, we’ll assist with your travel costs.  We will reimburse your travel costs up to $250.  To be eligible for the reimbursement, you must: (1) schedule your visit with the Admissions Office in advance; (2) visit between January 5 and July 9; (3) travel more than 200 miles round-trip; and (4) complete the reimbursement form and submit it prior to your visit.  (Only one travel reimbursement per admitted student.)

PREPARING FOR LAW SCHOOL

There is no required reading during the summer until class assignments are posted in late July.  Nevertheless, if you are anxious about preparing for law school during the summer, we can recommend some reading materials.  We also strongly recommend your participation in the 1L Book Club provided by the Office of Academic Achievement.  More information is available about the 1L Book Club from Chelsea Baldwin, Assistant Director of Academic Achievement at cbaldwin@okcu.edu or (405) 208-5417.

DISABILITY ACCOMMODATIONS

If you have a disability that you believe may qualify for accommodations by the law school under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), please prepare a statement outlining your disability and the accommodation that you believe would enable to be successful at OCU LAW.  Contact the Office of Student Services at (405) 208-5355 for more information.

OCU TOBACCO POLICY

As part of a number of health initiatives at OCU, the tobacco policy states that no tobacco of any kind is permitted, inside or outside OCU buildings, anywhere on the OCU campus. Click here to read the policy and frequently asked questions.
