MISSION STATEMENT

The Native American Legal Resource Center provides capacity building services to tribal communities and creates opportunities for students, faculty, staff and the broader University Community to utilize knowledge and resources to serve the needs of Indian Country in a culturally appropriate and efficient manner for a maximum positive impact.

CURRENT ACTIVITIES

Within the Oklahoma City University School of Law, the Native American Legal Resource Center is an academic center that encourages scholarship in the area of Indian Law and Policy. The NALRC also provides various services to the Tribal Governments in the State of Oklahoma, as well as Tribal Governments across the United States.

The NALRC has several successful working relationships and projects that serve various needs in Indian Country.  Funding for these initiatives comes from grants and sub-contracts awarded to the NALRC for the provision of specific services.

PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS

If you are a prospective student, and would like to schedule a time to come to OCU LAW for a visit, please contact Casey Ross-Petherick.  We can give you a tour of the campus and the law school, arrange for you to sit in on a real Law School class, and schedule meetings for you with the office of admissions. We are here to help, and hope that you will choose to make OCU LAW your home for your Law School career, and beyond.

Native American Law Students Association- Moot Court

The NALRC also serves as the advisory center for the OCU Chapter of the Native American Law Students Association.  OCU NALSA is an active chapter within the National organization that provides service to the Tribal Communities in Oklahoma as well as to the National organization.  OCU NALSA competes in the National NALSA Moot Court Competition every spring, sending two to three competitive teams.  The National NALSA Moot Court competition is an appellate level brief writing and oral argument competition focusing on nationally prevalent Indian Law issues.  The NALRC prepares the students for the competition by coaching the teams in the area of Scholarship and Oral Argument.  The NALRC also serves as a liaison for OCU NALSA in building relationships with the National Indian Law and Policy community.
